Hydrogen is increasingly recognized as a potentially valuable co-product of circular economy infrastructure — captured during conversion processes and directed toward refueling, industrial, and power applications. Rather than developing standalone hydrogen production facilities, infrastructure platforms focused on resource recovery may be positioned to produce hydrogen as a by-product of thermal and chemical conversion processes. This co-production approach can potentially reduce the marginal cost of hydrogen production while diversifying the revenue profile of the underlying infrastructure asset. The growing network of hydrogen refueling infrastructure, combined with policy support for clean hydrogen production, is creating commercial pathways for hydrogen from circular economy facilities. Heavy-duty transportation, industrial processes, and grid-support applications represent potential demand centers for distributed hydrogen supply. Infrastructure developers who integrate hydrogen capture and purification capabilities into their facilities may be able to access additional revenue streams and policy incentives while contributing to the development of distributed hydrogen supply networks across the Americas. As the hydrogen economy continues to develop, circular economy infrastructure platforms that can produce hydrogen alongside other products may offer a practical, cost-effective pathway to distributed clean hydrogen supply.
